The Victory Of Jesus
At one of our Church’s monthly regional Eastside Encounter Night during worship, the Lord gave me a picture of the face of the crucified Jesus. The crown of thorns on His head and blood running down His face. Then I heard the Lord say “if they would have known, they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory.”
This is actually a quote from scripture. In 1 Corinthians 2:7-8 it says “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hiden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”
The word for mystery is musterion which means: to initiate into the mysteries. In other words, a secret known only to the initiated, something hidden requiring special revelation.
In the NT the word denotes something that people could never know on their own understanding and that demands a revelation from God.
In nonbiblical Greek it is knowledge withheld, concealed, or silenced. In biblical Greek it is truth revealed.
Now that we understand this is referring to something hidden requiring special revelation, and that revelation is only for the believer through His Spirit, let’s look at who it’s hidden from.
In 2 Corinthians 4:4 Satan is referred to as “the god of this age” and Ephesians 6:12 refers to demons of hell as “principalities, powers, rulers of darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places”.
The mystery of God’s plan of redemption through the Cross was concealed from Satan, his demons, and those who are under his dominion. Had Satan and his demons known what the cross of Jesus would accomplish, that it would conquer sin and death. That it would seal a new and better covenant by His blood, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory!
That is the power of the Cross! It made a way for us to be right with God. The Cross is our victory. Hallelujah!
