Jeremiah 3:2-4 “…And you have polluted the land with your harlotries and your wickedness. Therefore the showers have been withheld, and there has been no latter rain. You have had a harlot’s forehead; You refuse to be ashamed. Will you not from this time cry to Me, My Father, You are the guide of my youth?”

In these verses, God is giving Jeremiah a call of repentance for the people of Israel. They had abandoned following God and turned to pagan idols. They had Prophets who claimed to prophesy the word of the Lord and promised blessing and abundance, but God had not sent them nor given this word. In these passages we see them God is saying their sin and idolatry have even been the cause of withholding the “latter rain” (the Spring rain often for refreshing).

So He commissions Jeremiah to warn them and call them back to repentance. Back to their first love!

Repentance means to change the way I think. It’s a call to come back to Him and His ways. To forsake going our own way and to align ourselves with His ways. He will not bless what is not of Him.

I believe this is Gods call to His people in America today. To change the way we think. To allow the Lord to search us and know us (Psalm 139:23-24). To surrender our ways for His. Cultural Christianity was never Gods plan from the start. The practice of circumcision for the Jew was a type and shadow of the circumcision of the heart that God requires for every follower of Jesus (Deut. 10:16, 30:6, Jeremiah 4:4, & Romans 2:28-29).

If this message feels hard, or uncomfortable, I encourage you to consider it. If you’re reading it thinking “this sounds so religious”, then I challenge you to seek the Lord on it; pray, read and study the scriptures and test it.

God is purifying the hearts of His people; bringing them back to first love for Jesus where our hearts just desire to know Him and to love Him.

If you’ve felt distant from Him, call out to Him today. He’s ready to answer you and in love He draws us back to Himself. “My Father, You are the guide of my youth?”

XO,

Liz
